Terms of use
Last updated 25 October 2026
- You must be 18 or over and in the UK.
- Post only live photos you took yourself, with no one's face in them.
- Be kind. No harassment, scams, asking for money, explicit content or hate. We don't tolerate it and we remove people who do it.
- Report or block anyone who makes you uncomfortable. A person reviews every report.
- Meet in public, tell a friend, and never send money to someone you met here.
About these terms
These terms are an agreement between you and Maeplet Ltd (company number 17306612, registered office 44 George Arthur Road, Birmingham, B8 1LW), which runs the Maeplet app and maeplet.com. By creating an account you agree to them and to our privacy policy. If you don't agree, please don't use Maeplet.
Who can use Maeplet
- You must be at least 18 and give your real date of birth.
- Maeplet is for people in the UK, with a UK mobile number.
- One account per person. Don't share it or sign in as someone else.
- You can't use Maeplet if we've removed you before, or if you've been convicted of a sexual or violent offence.
How Maeplet works
Each town gets one photo quest a day. If someone else photographs the very same thing, you Spark and can chat. Matching is done partly by an automated service and isn't perfect; we can't promise you'll Spark with anyone or get on with them if you do. Features may change as we improve the app.
Your content
You own the photos, captions, notes, finds and messages you post. You give Maeplet Ltd a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, process and show them to other users as the app works, and to use them to check safety and run the service. This ends when you delete the content or your account, except where we must keep a copy for a report or by law.
You must have the right to post what you post. Photos must be taken live in the app, by you, and must not show anyone's recognisable face.
No tolerance for objectionable content or abusive behaviour
You must not post, send or do anything that:
- harasses, threatens, bullies, stalks or intimidates anyone, or tries to find out where someone lives or is;
- is sexually explicit, pornographic or nude, or involves anyone under 18 in any way;
- is hateful or discriminates against people for who they are;
- shows or encourages violence, self-harm, weapons or illegal drugs;
- asks anyone for money, gifts, crypto or bank details, or is a scam, spam, or advertising;
- pretends to be someone else, or shares anyone's private information (including number plates, house numbers or addresses);
- breaks the law, or tries to hack, copy, overload or get around the app's safety features.
Photos and messages are checked automatically, and you can report or block anyone from their photo or chat. We review reports within 24 hours. When content breaks these rules we remove it, and we suspend or permanently remove the person who posted it.
Meeting people
We don't run background or identity checks on users beyond the checks described here, and we aren't responsible for how other users behave. If you meet someone: meet somewhere public, tell a friend where you're going, get yourself there and back, and leave if anything feels wrong. Never send money to someone you've met on Maeplet. If you're in danger, call 999.
Suspending and closing accounts
You can delete your account at any time in the app (Me, then Delete account). We may suspend or close an account, or remove content, if we reasonably believe it breaks these terms, puts someone at risk or is against the law. Where it's safe to, we'll tell you why.
Paying
Maeplet is free. If we add paid features, we'll show the price and terms before you pay, and purchases will go through Apple.
Our responsibility to you
We provide Maeplet with reasonable care and skill, but we can't promise it will always be available or free of errors. We aren't responsible for losses we couldn't reasonably foresee, for the actions of other users, or for business losses. Nothing in these terms limits our responsibility for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or anything else that can't be limited by law, and nothing affects your legal rights as a consumer.
Changes to these terms
If we change these terms in a way that matters, we'll tell you in the app before the change takes effect. If you keep using Maeplet after that, the new terms apply.
The law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. You can bring a claim in the courts of England and Wales, or in Scotland or Northern Ireland if you live there.
